I have heard it said, one never has enough money. As you make more, you simply want more expensive things.
The picture you are looking at is Mike Lynch’s $25MM yacht, Bayesian. Mr. Lynch was a British tech entrepreneur said to be worth over $800 million. A year ago this month, the Bayesian sank in the Mediterranean off of Porticello, Italy. Mr. Lynch and seven others drowned, his daughter among them.
A few days before my birthday this month, Rita, almost apologetically, told me she wasn’t getting me anything because she couldn’t think of anything I wanted. She knows me very well. I couldn’t think of anything either.
I tell my kids something that dies (flowers) or something I or we can use up. I don’t want things. I want presence.
We are in the same place Sam. BTW, loved the Hayek reference last week. He’d be aghast at what direction our economy has taken.
